Radio Frequency Engineer

Key Responsibilites:

  • RF system design
  • Develop detailed link budget analyses for RF systems
  • Support selection and design of antenna technologies
    RF path design from 30MHz to 18GHz including LNAs, LNBs, filters, diplexers, splitters, oscillators, switches, directional couplers etc.
  • RF system dimensioning and power analysis
  • Collaborating closely with DSP, FPGA, system/hardware/software engineers to design and validate RF systems
  • Some Systems Engineering work to guide the ultimate design of platforms and products
  • Workbench level work consisting of testing, integration, assembly, and prototyping.
  • Testing components and RF systems using equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, power meters, etc.
  • Creating simulation models of RF systems to evaluate the appropriateness of designs
  • Writing and maintaining technical documentation for RF design and development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or better) in RF or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with RF systems and hardware.
  • In-depth knowledge of RF systems and components up to 18 GHz.
  • Knowledge of RF/Microwave COTS vendors.
  • In-depth understanding of link budgets and RF concepts such as noise figure, noise temperature, SFDR, IP3 etc.
  • Proficiency with fundamental RF test equipments such as spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers.
  • Familarity with antenna designs and their basic parameters.
  • Basic understanding of channel effects such as Doppler, multipath, phase noise, fading etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Programming proficiency in Python
  • Experience with open source simulation software such as 4NEC2.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation software such as HFSS, ADS, and CST.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software, such as Altium is a plus.
  • Knowledge of over the air interfaces and modulation/multiplexing schemes.
  • Previous experience with Software Defined Radio technology is a huge plus.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC.
  • Basic soldering capability.
